How does alcohol affect sex?
Alcohol (ethanol, ethyl alcohol) is probably one of the most abused substances worldwide. It is very popular because of the euphoric effect it has on human behaviour and therefore it seems “sex friendly”. Aside from numerous effects on health, alcohol intake shows following sex related effects depending on the drinking habits:
Occasional, social and moderate drinking:
- suppressing of sexual inhibition - people get involved in sexual activities more easily
- peripheral vasodilatation - capillary and small caliber blood vessels are widened which brings in more blood to peripheral tissues (read: penis and clitoris). More blood to nervous endings (receptors) means their higher sensibility and therefore more sexual pleasure. But if the quantity of alcohol intake is big, the situation is quite opposite. It is because alcohol is neuro-toxic and in big amounts it leads to acute impotency. So, the glass of wine and sex are OK, but the bottle of scotch and sex are NOT OK.
- longer sex - Generally, alcohol releases from fear and gives you false self-confidence. Believe it or not, the fear of premature ejaculation is one of the reasons for persistent premature ejaculation. If the fear is gone, the sex is longer. Also, as stated above, the big amount of alcohol confuses penile receptors and make them dull and less sensible which leads to longer lasting explosive sex. But does it solve premature ejaculation problem or leads to alcoholism? I guess you know the answer.
